  • Sri Lanka packs a huge range of adventure into a small island. The most popular are surfing on the south and east coasts (Weligama, Midigama and Arugam Bay), hiking and trekking in the hill country (Ella Rock, Adam's Peak, Knuckles and Horton Plains), white-water rafting in Kitulgala, and diving or snorkelling at reefs like Pigeon Island and Hikkaduwa. You can also try hot-air ballooning near the Cultural Triangle, ziplining and waterfall abseiling. Tell us your energy level and interests and we'll help you build the perfect mix.

  • Yes — white-water rafting in Kitulgala is very safe when you go with a licensed operator, which is what we always arrange. You'll get a full safety briefing, a helmet and life jacket, and an experienced guide in every raft. The main Kitulgala run is mostly grade 2–3 rapids, which is exciting but suitable for beginners and families with older children. We only work with established, insured rafting companies, so you're in good hands from start to finish.

  • It depends on the season and your level. For beginners, Weligama Bay is ideal with its gentle, sandy-bottom waves and plenty of surf schools. Midigama and Hikkaduwa offer punchier reef breaks for improvers, and Arugam Bay on the east coast is the country's most famous wave, best from around May to September. The south and west coasts are best from November to April. We'll time your trip and drive you to whichever break matches your ability and the season.

  • Absolutely. Every adventure tour we arrange is private — your own air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver, just for you and your group, with no sharing with strangers. You set the pace, choose your activities and we handle the logistics, transfers and timing between each spot. Private tours are the easiest, most flexible way to combine several adventures across different parts of the island in one trip.

  • For most hikes we recommend sturdy walking shoes or trainers with good grip, breathable clothing, a light rain jacket (hill-country weather changes fast), sunscreen, a hat and at least one litre of water per person. Start early to beat the heat and mist — for sunrise climbs like Adam's Peak or Ella Rock you'll also want a warm layer and a head torch. Your driver will advise on timing and can stop for any last-minute supplies on the way to the trailhead.
